The Recovery Room

When you awaken, you will be in the recovery room. You may not remember this but you will probably be awake within a few minutes of arriving to the recovery room. You will be under constant supervision. The nurses will be taking your blood pressure, pulse and respirations frequently and checking on you until you are fully awake.

Generally, you should be quite comfortable if not very groggy from the anaesthetic, but may need pain medication as you become more alert. Initially, you will be given  pain medications through your drip, but after you awaken enough to eat and drink they will begin to give you pain medicine in the tablet form.

It is common for you to get dizzy if you attempt to get up to quickly. For this reason, you will need to move cautiously and follow the instructions given to you by our nursing staff.

You may also be receiving oxygen through a mask over your mouth and nose or through small tubes in your nose. You may have a sore throat from the breathing tube that was in place during surgery.

Visitors and telephone calls to the Recovery Room are not permitted.
