The Partial (Unicompartmental) Knee Replacements (UKR)

P
artial knee replacements use " minimally-invasive surgery " commonly referred to as MIS techniques for the treatment of arthritis which affects only ONE compartment of the knee.

What are the compartments of the knee

We therefore have two basic types of partial knee replacements, one replacing the femoro-tibial part of the knee and the other replacing the patello-femoral part of the knee.

Both of these replacement have a common features of using MIS to achieve the replacement. A small incision is required. There is less damage to the muscles, tendons and ligaments with MIS. The procedures are less painful than  a total knee replacement and therefore you will require less pain relief medication. The Hospital stay is much shorter and the rehabilitation after the surgery is much easier.

On average you will be in hospital for three days after the surgery. You will require crutches for a week or two.
