2. Arthroscopic Preparation of the Knee Prior to Graft Insertion

10.jpg (17704 bytes)

This arthroscopic picture demonstrated the stump of the torn ligament after removal of the Cyclops lesion, in preparation for insertion of the new graft

13.jpg (16257 bytes)

The femoral side of the torn ligament attachment is also prepared for the new graft

32.jpg (25967 bytes)

An arthroscopic jig is used to insert guide wires in order to create bony tunnels in the exact position to reproduce the normal position of the ACL tendon

16.jpg (13185 bytes)

The position of the jig is seen in this arthroscopic picture

19.jpg (3057 bytes)

Once the guide wire is positioned, a cannulated drill creates the tibial tunnel

The guide wire  position

21.jpg (14162 bytes)

The drill is passed over the guide wire

30.jpg (7428 bytes)

The guide wire is then inserted through the tibial tunnel into the femoral site for the graft

23.jpg (14559 bytes)

After the femoral guide wire is positioned, a cannulated drill creates the femoral  tunnel

25.jpg (12959 bytes)

It is drilled 35-40 mm into the femur

22.jpg (13056 bytes)

The Rigifix jig is now inserted into the femoral tunnel. It is used to position the Rigifix pins to fix the femoral side of the graft.

81.jpg (20677 bytes)

The Rigifix jig can be seen from the outside

83.jpg (11446 bytes)

The holes are being drilled to insert the pins

step7v2.jpg (8275 bytes)

A diagram demonstrating the jig ready to insert the pins

femtunnelpin.jpg (12125 bytes)

The femoral tunnel, once prepared for insertion of the pins can be viewed arthroscopically.
