A new concept of shoulder replacements

THE QUESTION WAS:

MODIFYING AN ALREADY EXISTING AND GOOD SYSTEM OR DESIGNING A NEW ONE?

A new range of shoulder replacement became available. There were some improvements with the "elective" components, used for primary osteoarthritis. There was a new component for "trauma", when the shoulder is fracture beyond repair. The most innovative and exciting development includes the reverse. The reverse was designed to treat  Cuff Tear Arthropathy CTA.

For early arthritis a resurfacing replacement exists. This is a relatively less invasive procedure with a much faster rehabilitation.

The Copeland cementless surface replacement

Cementless surface replacement replacement of the shoulder is designed to replace the damaged joint surfaces and restore normal anatomy with minimal resection of bone.

The cementless surface replacement reduces the risk of complications involving the humeral shaft of conventional replacements and periprosthetic fractures. This surface replacement has the advantage of bone preservation.

Should revision of this procedure ber equired, it can be performed easily since the bone stock has been maintained with no loss of length.

This procedure is not suitable for severely damaged joints in which the humeral head is insufficient or too soft.

HemiCAP is a new option in the  care of early arthritis before a joint replacement is indicated.
