Shoulder Disorders

Shoulder problems can be divided into acute injuries such as fractures and dislocations, and chronic (long-term) conditions such as arthritis or recurrent dislocations.

Chronic conditions of the shoulder can be divided into catching conditions (usually of the rotator cuff tendons), problems of strength usually due to tendon damage (usually of the rotator cuff tendons), stiffness and stability problems.

Another way of looking at these problems is dividing them into

  • problems of the tendons around the shoulder joint, smoothness and strength problems (usually of the rotator cuff tendons)

  • problems arising from inside the shoulder joint such as stiffness and stability problems
