An orthopaedic surgeon studies for many years to develop his or her proficiencies. Exactly how much training does one have to undergo? After completing medical school, the candidate works for three years as an intern and resident.  Then the prospective orthopaedist trains in his or her programme area for four years. A minimum of seven years of study and practical is required.
