Research & Rehabilitation

Dr Andrés Rodríguez Borgonovo has a practice dedicated exclusively to shoulder conditions and treatment, shaped by advanced training across three continents and a strong research background in rotator cuff and shoulder outcomes.

After qualifying as a Doctor of Medicine at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, one of the largest and most established medical schools in Latin America, Dr Rodríguez Borgonovo completed his residency at Hospital de Pacheco in Buenos Aires, rotating through trauma, paediatric, spine, tumour and upper limb subspecialties before serving as Head Resident in his final year. He went on to build a busy upper limb practice across several private and public hospitals in the Buenos Aires region, treating a broad range of orthopaedic trauma and elective conditions.

Seeking further subspecialisation, Dr Rodríguez Borgonovo undertook four consecutive years of fellowship training across Australia and Switzerland. He completed an Upper Limb Trauma Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, followed by a two-year Shoulder Fellowship in Sydney and Wollongong under Associate Professor Mark Haber, and a Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship in Geneva under Dr Gregory Cunningham at the Centre Épaule Coude La Colline. Across these fellowships he gained advanced experience in shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder replacement, fracture management, sports injuries and the treatment of complex shoulder and elbow disorders.

Dr Rodríguez Borgonovo maintains an active interest in clinical research, with a particular focus on rotator cuff repair outcomes. His published and presented research includes studies on outcome comparisons in workers’ compensation patients, graft augmentation for irreparable rotator cuff tears, and functional outcomes of rotator cuff repair in patients over 70 — work presented at international meetings including the ISAKOS Biennial Congress and the International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

Today, Dr Rodríguez Borgonovo’s practice focuses exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder conditions, including rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, arthritis, fractures, sports injuries and shoulder replacement. He is committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centred care, working closely with each patient to achieve the best outcome possible for their circumstances and return them to their normal activities.

Dr Rodríguez Borgonovo consults primarily at Southern Orthopaedics in Wollongong, and also sees patients at Macquarie University Hospital, Campbelltown Private Hospital and in Sydney CBD. He treats patients at Wollongong Day Surgery, East Sydney Private Hospital and Shellharbour Private Hospital.
