Stiff or Painful Shoulder? Discuss Frozen Shoulder with a Shoulder Specialist in Sydney/Wollongong
Oct 22, 2013
If you have significant pain or stiffness in your shoulder but can’t recall a specific injury that caused it, it may be worth having it assessed for frozen shoulder (also known as adhesive capsulitis).
What Is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder is a condition where the shoulder joint capsule becomes thickened and tight, causing progressive stiffness and pain, often without an obvious triggering injury. It typically develops gradually, and the pattern of pain and restricted movement is often different from other common causes of shoulder pain, such as rotator cuff problems or arthritis.
Why Assessment Matters
Because a number of different shoulder conditions can cause similar symptoms, a clinical assessment – and imaging where appropriate – helps confirm whether frozen shoulder, or something else, is behind your symptoms. This matters because appropriate management differs depending on the underlying diagnosis.
